When I walked into the SIFT office on Monday morning, I wasn’t sure what to expect from my work experience. The idea of working at SIFT and the day-to-day marketing role were completely new to me. As the week went on, I found myself participating in so many different activities, from completing spreadsheets on various companies to writing blogs about charity football matches and creating survey emails.
During the week, I was introduced to the basics of B2B marketing, learning about how businesses engage with other businesses to promote their products and services. The ideas of search engine optimisation, understanding buyer personas, and targeting specific customers were particularly interesting. With each day and project, I gained a deeper appreciation for the strategic thinking and creative elements of a marketing role. My favourite project had to be working on the marketing campaign for AccountingWEB Intelligence. It gave me a look inside the strategy and planning it requires, and it was so great to see the ideas go from points on paper to a solid and thought-out plan.
Now, reflecting on the week spent learning about SIFT and working in a marketing role, I’m thankful for the opportunity to have worked in a supportive and welcoming environment. People generously shared their knowledge and time, teaching me the meanings of tasks and offering valuable feedback. The friendly environment within the team not only made my work more enjoyable, but also accelerated my understanding of how marketing strategies are crafted and executed effectively.
As I wrap up my week at SIFT, I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences and insights I’ve gained. I’ve realised what a varied and creative role it plays, and it has given me insight into what it is like to work in the accounting and marketing fields and what a friendly and positive workplace looks like. I have massively enjoyed my time at SIFT and had an amazing week!
